Questions people actually ask.
Do you accept insurance?+
Yes — I'm in-network with Aetna, Cigna, United Healthcare, Optum, GEHA, and Blue Cross Blue Shield. If yours isn't listed, reach out. I can often help you check your out-of-network benefits, and I'm happy to provide a superbill for self-submission.
How long are sessions?+
Individual sessions are 50 minutes. Couples and family sessions are typically 60 minutes. Assessment sessions and court-services engagements vary depending on scope — we'll agree to that in advance.
How often will we meet?+
Weekly is standard — research is pretty clear that weekly frequency, at least at the start, produces better outcomes. As you make progress, we can often space sessions further apart. For couples work, weekly or every-other-week tends to work well.
Do you offer telehealth?+
Yes. I offer HIPAA-compliant telehealth to clients physically located anywhere in Missouri. I find a hybrid approach — some sessions in-person, some remote — works well for many clients.
Is our first session a full therapy session?+
The first session is mostly about getting oriented — what brought you in, relevant history, what you're hoping to change, and whether we're a good fit for each other. Real therapeutic work typically starts in sessions two through four, once we've shaped an approach together.
What if I'm not sure therapy is right for me?+
That's one of the most common things I hear, and it's completely valid. I offer a brief no-cost consultation call so you can ask questions, share what's going on, and get a sense of whether we'd work well together — with no obligation to move forward.
What should I do in a mental health emergency?+
Summit Ridge Counseling is not a crisis service. If you are in a mental health emergency, please:
- Call or text 988 (Suicide and Crisis Lifeline)
- Call 911
- Go to your nearest emergency room
